Holiday Thoughts

We spent a lovely Midsummer at my parents cottage away from internet, running water and civilization. I could live like that more often!

Replanting Project

We took a break from wedding planning with my bridesmaid and changed the soil in my plants who have stayed at her place since we moved to Sweden. I've missed them! We bought some new plants to our Swedish place but it's not the same!

We had some problems finding big enough pots for all of them but she had som extra in the cellar. I wish I had seen this post on lace-pots earlier, they would have fitted her interior style perfectly.

The Human Quest

I've had some courses with the girls who are running the AbsolutAgronom blog (in Swedish), if you're interested in agronomy, I recommend you to check it out.

I wanted to spread the word about the book they recommend in their blog. The book is written by agronomist Johan Rockström and photographer Mattias Klum. The English version of the book is called The Human Quest-prospering within planetary boundaries.

I posted a video of Johan Rockström's TedX talk on planetary boundaries in my post from the Sustainability Day 2012. Rockström and Klum hope to inspire us and world leaders with their book to change our relationship towards our planet, to open our eyes to what is happening around us and to start living within the planetary boundaries. It's released just in time for Rio+ 20. Here is a video with the authors talking about the book.

I hope to get my hand on a copy!

More Comedy

I never managed to get to the festival in the village because I was kidnapped away for my bachelorette party, it turned out to be suc a great day and nice weather! I hope to get hold of some photos from my friends and I can write a bit more about it later.

Now I'm a bit tired and just surfing around watching random things on the internet like this web-TV Series called Randy By Nature with Randy Kagan. This is the last episode on the YouTube channel.

Next Terrorist Treath?

I have a feeling that some of the last posts have been quite depressing, so here you have something a bit more uplifting.

Go Green Get Fit Challenge

This seems to be a cool challenge for the summer, Go Green Get Fit. On Monday 18th June, 25+ Green Bloggers will launch a 12-week health and wellness series and share their ups and downs during the challenge. I will follow up on the challenge on Lori's blog, and Go Green Get Fit's facebook and twitter. I hope I will have time to do sport during July and August as well. This month I'm on holiday and I've joined a Crossfit course, I'm halfway trough the beginners course now and I've actually quite enjoyed it. It's nice to notice I manage to do exercises I thought I couldn't and my prejudgement that the course would be full of weight-lifters was completely wrong.

As I'm home in Finland for the vacation I was happy to see that there is a small festival in the village tomorrow focusing on "homemade" things and local food. I hope I will have time to go and take a look!

Our Energy and Economic Future

I found some videos by Nicole Foss on this blog (blog in Swedish but the YouTube clips are in English). I think it's worth checking them out, even if it takes some time checking all of them, she talks also about the Economy in the last video.

Here's the first one on alternative energy:

Eco Café Uppsala is closing

I was sad to hear that the eco café in Uppsala is closing, it is just recently that I wrote about it and in the end I only made it there once.

Let's hope more places like that are opening up soon, all around!

If you're based in Uppsala, there is a closing event tomorrow.

I recently wrote about the transition culture TedX talk by Rob Hopkins, if you are interested in getting involved in a similar project or learning more you can check out the tranisition network's webpage, called REconomy.

Someone who really stepped out our economical system is Daniel Suelo, who quit money altogheter. I learned about him today reading an interesting interview with him here. I am not sure quitting money is the best solution but I think ideas like the REconomy project are pushing us in the right direction. I do recommend you to read the interview though, very wise and interesting thoughts.

We're also approching Rio+ 20 and UNDP realized a video a few days ago with the theme "The Future We Want" for the conference. To accomplish all that the video entails, we're gonna need ideas like Hopkins and Suelos. Ideas that inspire us to live more sustainable by having more with less.

Did you celebrate the World Environment Day yesterday? I was busy with wedding plans but I hope to make up for it, if it is nice weather on Friday I can spend the day on the beach as it is World Ocean Day!

The World Environment Day theme this year was: Green Economy, does it include you? To learn more about what is green economy you can visit UNEP's site here. So how come it includes us? Because it's strives for social equity and inclusiveness.

I'd write some more but I'm trying hard to stick to my rule of less internet during holidays. Remember to celebrate on Friday!

We're heading to Finland for some holiday so there will be a bit less updates on the blog during June. I will try to take it easy and stay away from the computer but we'll see how I manage.

Be good while I'm gone!

P.S. strangely enough me and Maggie both got sick after the yoga challenge even if are not even in the same country. Coincidence?
