Happy Mothers Day!

My blogging has again gone down to a minimum, but I hope that less social media means more life. At least it feels like life is busy. I am having my first yoga classes already, next one tomorrow, you're most welcome to join my class!

Stromae makes a song about social media addiction

The music video is actually quite gross at the end but message behind it is worth thinking about.

I was myself quite tired of Facebook about a month ago, and tried to do a but of a Facebook detox. I deleted Facebook apps from my phone etc. Unfortunately, I didn't manage too well with staying away from Facebook though. It's like that irritating blue bird in the music video, it demands your attention. I still haven't re-installed the Facebook apps on my phone though and I am definitely not gonna do it again. In fact there might be a few other apps that are pretty useless and time consuming on my phone....

Here is a good article with a girl who is not on Facebook, few points in there made me think about the authenticity in social media relations.

Happy Easter!

Hope you are enjoying Easter! This picture is from a few weeks ago, unfortunately it is quite dull weather today.

The Local and Organic Food fair last weekend was unfortunately a bit of a disappointment. My guess is that smaller producers and sellers cannot afford the prices for a stand so the more interesting once are not even there. Also I missed some more interesting plants at the garden section, last year I found the olive tree, this year all I could see was flower's for Easter (which is ok, just not what I was looking for).

Local & Organic Food Fair

The local and organic food fair will be organized in the Helsinki Messukeskus (fair centre) on the weekend 26-29.3,  I got some free tickets so I will be there on Saturday with a couple of friends. Last year we went with some friends too (as paying guests though) and it was interesting but I hope there will be even more food stands this year. Hopefully this is a fair that will grow every year due to more producers and customers. During the same time there will be the spring and garden fair in Messukeskus so I hope to pick up some plants and maybe some seeds for the summer.

Will you be there? What's your expectations?

More talk on collapse (and opportunity)

David Holmgren one of the creators of Permaculture was speaking in a debate in Melbourne last month on the subject "To Collapse Or Not To Collapse: Pushing for economic ruin or building a great transition".

Very inspirational!

Wake Up

My lovely yoga teacher Leta at YogaRocks mentioned the documentary Wake up in our teacher's course and out of curiosity I watched it as you can find it on Netflix. I think it was an interesting documentary mostly because of the main character's search for answers to his spiritual crisis. I like that he explores it through a wide range of people from scientists to mystics and different religions.

One thing that stuck in my mind after watching it was his encounter with the Buddhist monk, Roshi Joan Halifax, as she talks about the Collapse Opportunity, which is interesting also from an environmental point of view.

If there would be a system collapse, how would you react? Are you able to look at the inhumanity in the world today and not go numb?

New month, new possibilities

Been living in a bit of a limbo state for a while, February was not our greatest month. Our car was broken into and stuff stolen and destroyed for one thing. So we've had to deal with the challenge of living on the country-side without a car which has been a but of a challenge. What we learned though is that it is possible, but not without the help from friends, family and colleagues. (Thanks!)

However, little by little the puzzle-pieces are falling together, while other things are falling apart, it still leaves a clear trail of direction for the time being, March-Bring it on, we are ready for you!

Super Juice Me

The upside of being sick is that I gave some extra of time to read and watch things while resting. Yesterday I took time to watch the Super Juice Me documentary, recommended by a friend. It was indeed inspiring. I'm not sure I'm up for doing the whole 28 days living only on juice, but then again I don't have any health problems at the moment. However, the documentary did inspire me to do more juices at home, good thing I got a juicer for Christmas!

Saturday Reading

I've gotten a bit of a flu and decided that today is best to rest, what's better then than to have stumbled upon a really interesting article.

My Saturday reading  recommendation for you;

Why do many reasonable people doubt science?

5 months into no new clothes for a year

I haven't updated you for a while on the no new clothes for a year. Pre and during Christmas I was too busy to even considered that shopping for new clothes would be the thing to do.  I didn't miss any new outfits either, there was apparently enough Christmas outfits in my closet.

However, what I did get second-hand was a few more warm jumpers and I haven't regretted it! They are awesome and the best in winter to keep you warm. I had to do some stiches in all of my finds but after that they were as good as new.

Picture from here. Good post and tips on how to buy less.

Wildlife

Change the World Wednesday challenge is to go outside and find something you love. I took the easy way out and documented the birds from the window, mostly because they fly away when we go outside. When we are lucky we also see some squirrels from the window and a few times we have also seen a bunny and once a fox.

Being outdoors we also spot wildlife sometimes but it's a bit more difficult (especially with the dog around). Me and our dog like to look out the window, we are super lucky to have the forest just outside.

Just Eat It

Another documentary about Food Waste, which is a subject I care about a lot.

Just Eat It - A food waste story (Official Trailer) from Grant Baldwin on Vimeo.

Don't waste your food-Just Eat It! (Even though I realize that a lot of the food waste actually happens before the food even reach the customers which also this documentary seem to highlight).

30 days of Yoga with Adrienne

A friend pointed out to me that Yoga with Adriene on YouTube is doing one yoga video per day for 30 days and it's free. So if you are stuck in your practice and need some inspiration, this might be it!

I have done some of the videos every now and then as I also follow my own practice, however, it is a good channel to go to when I have no other practice planned for the day.

Today I'm doing day 9;

A bit of yoga humor

Nothing is to be taken too seriously, not even yoga.

Do you do yoga? What do you like/dislike about yoga? Do you recognize something from the parodies?

Why I live green? (or try to)

It's been a while ago since last time I updated something on the Change the World Wednesday challenges but here comes a post on this week's challenge. The challenge is to post a photo on why you live green. I know this is not a photo but I came to think about this video. For me the argument is he presents in the video holds. What do you think?

I will also post a photo though, because another reason is that I simply really like nature and I don't really see any reason to why we would violate it.

Keep Calm

So life always has a way of surprising you and twist and turn in funny and not so funny ways. Right now we have lay-offs at work, which is nice to have "vacation" (unpaid though!) but the financial bit is of course a tiny bit worrying. Working less is ok (that I have written about before), but not working at all is a different story.

Well, I took the time to update a page on this blog "about me" in case the rigth person would happen to end up on this blog at the right moment, in that case contact me, please! I also added my pinterest and instagram accounts in the side-bar. At the same time I can share with you now that I have started my 200h yoga teacher training, woohaa! That was a bit scary in the beginning but then now when the course is on it's way it is so much fun and I respect my teacher so much! I really hope that one day I have the opportunity to share what I am learning now.

In any case, when I feel down about the uncertain future I take a look at my pinterest inspiration board and I feel so much better. Perhaps it is meant to be this way and perhaps it will lead to something so much better.

The good thing if I have a lot of more free time I will try to update this blog a bit more. Please let me know what you'd like to read about!

Permaculture course x 2

You might remember that I did a permaculture course in summer. If you are into gardening and want to go to a course yourself there is now two opportunities in Finland in spring.

In Helsinki in March and in Tampere in April. I do recommend it if you are new to permaculture and want to know the basics! The courses are in Finnish.

Happy New Year!

Came across this short documentary and had to share it with you.

I know I've been really, really bad at bloggin lately, but life happens in the meantime.
